It was fun five years ago, but not anymore.

I think AI has really pulled the curtain back for me.

Weird photos on Facebook with 1000's of likes.

Ai Generated social media platforms - Butterflies AI is downright fascinating & horrifying.

Weird AI generated TikTok videos.

Endless spam on Twitter and Instagram.

I've been detoxing from Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok - and it's really helped me slow down. 

I still scroll Twitter a bit - but mainly for the benefit of seeing what interesting things are happening in the tech and tech-adjecent scene.

Community + Curation for my newsletter - rather than mindless content consuption.

💡How do we move forward?

I think it'd be beneficial to create a more natural path of using the internet. 

Exploration - exploring webrings to find new sites and people to follow.

Rss Curation - Saving the feeds of various sites and blogs for later exploration. There's no demand to check NOW like a Instagram story. Check at your leisure!

Build - Encourage people to build websites on Neocities, mmm.page, or carrd.co - and create webrings! 

Bravery - Early adoption is hard, and often gets ridicule, especially if you're a Zillennial or Millennial. It's hard to get friends to try new tools. The first step is to start using the tools!

Don't surrender to the corpo tools. Use fun and creative stuff! It's no use to complain when many of the tools we need to have an more thoughtful internet are out there and waiting for us. 

Here's some fun ones to explore. I myself use many of these!

Make mindmaps, take notes in class, todo lists, journals, moodboards, and more with Kinopio.club

Make websites on mmm.page, carrd.co, or neocities

Create a workspace on Hyperspace Academy instead of Discord

Use Trails as your web browser

Join cool forums like the Agora Road or Melonland

Use leaflet.pub for docs or notes

Use Retro instead of Instagram

Share music on airbuds.fm

Use Shelf.im with your friends to share your interests

Create a social map with your friends on Corner.inc

The list goes on . . . These are just the ones off the top of my head. 

It all starts with your personal adoption, and then it's up to you to invite your friends!
