Where to Get Dope Leaflet Backgrounds
We love theming!!! Sometimes the hardest part is finding that perfect background image to really set off your manifesto.
Here's a few of my favorite image libraries to root around in for inspiration!
Realistic Materials
A library of textures generally used for making computer renders! These files are HUGE so make sure you download in lowest res for docs that load faster.
They come in a .zip that you will need to unpack to get to the texture (the zip also contains things like bump that you don't need)
Fun and Noisy
An early 2000's vibe library of textures built on Neocities. Super fun, crunchy, and loud.
These are great for repeated tiled image backgrounds!
Botanical and Scientific Prints
A repository of works in the public domain by Cosmos. Tons of very cool images packaged into a very cool site!
The Biodiversity Heritage Library has a huge collection of prints of the natural world!
Just Plain Pretty
Ghibli's official repository of stills from their films! It's organized by film. Just click the film you'd like to get to a page of stills.
Works of Art
The Getty Museum offers a large part of its collection online. Unfortunately it's a little difficult to navigate. I suggest filtering my "Object Type" and scrolling to find "Painting" or something similar. Perhaps "Illuminated Manuscript"?
The V&A has an incredible online collection available to everyone AND easy to browse! For really cool repeating patterns, I recommend browsing the Wallpaper or Tiles section.
Great visual search engine that draws from a half dozen museum & archive collections; good for finding, say, public domain images of leaves :)
Pallets of Patterns
Great pattern generator with an extensive collection of editable templates, and easy to customize colors!
Note the default png download may not tile seamlessly (dimensions are different for each pattern) — the trick: download the svg, open in text editor and check dimensions, multiply by the 'scale' factor (2 by default), then enter those dimensions for the png download!
And finally, a cool old-school pixel editor web app for creating simple tileable patterns.
