Two postcards featuring the church and the rectory of Waters Upton will soon be joining the collection I’m building for my #OnePlaceStudy of that Shropshire parish. 😀 In entirely unrelated news, I really, really, REALLY need to ban myself from eBay. 😬 #GenHour

Two images (both scans of old, black-and-white photo postcards) combined. Top: A view of the West end of the church at Waters Upton, with its bell turret, clock and stained glass windows, set in a churchyard with gravestones and coniferous trees. Bottom: A view of the front of the rectory at Waters Upton, a 2/3 storey, three-bay building with an extension on the right side. There is a porch, and Ivy or some other climbing plant covers most of the walls.

Have you acquired postcards or other items relating to your One-Place Study place or its people, through eBay or other online auction sites? Pop over to Bluesky and share the details (and don’t forget to include the #OnePlaceStudies hashtag!).

Oh, and you can find out more about the Shropshire parish that is depicted in the postcards above by visiting the Waters Upton One-Place Study website.

Yarmouth is such a heritage powerhouse there are fascinating buildings everywhere. Favourite new to me today was the Fishermen's Hospital, dated 1702, to support the 'decayed', which I think we can all sympathise with after the heat today. Also the birthplace of Anna Sewell, author of Black Beauty.

Today we commemorate 80 years since VJ Day and the end of the Second World War. This photograph of a street party was taken in Cardiff on VJ Day, 15 August 1945.

A large group of people, seated and standing, gathered around tables and sitting on benches on a street. The benches are made from planks of wood balanced on wooden fruit crates. The people include children and babies, women, and older men. There aren't any younger men. In the background there is a row of terraced houses.
