2 SEPT - ✊ OUR SUMMER OCCUPATION ENDS TODAY, BUT THE FIGHT TO KEEP OUR CENTRE IS STILL GOING!
Three weeks ago, Tottenham Family Fightback reopened a community centre that had been left abandoned by Haringey Council over the summer holidays.
We never anticipated the outpouring of solidarity, love and action that resulted.
To every single person who came through our doors: thank you.
Thank you to every single child who brought their joy and energy to our occupation.
Thank you to those who took part in our activity programme, to everyone who prepared food, donated so generously, cleaned up, danced, played with our toys, gardened, volunteered their time or simply came to celebrate the collective joy and power of our community.
Anyone who came through the doors of our occupation will know that this is what community looks like: this is what we can achieve when we come together and take ownership of what is rightfully ours.
We are leaving today but our fight is not over.
Haringey Council still wants to demolish our centre to build a path for new-build flats.
Right now, we are demanding that the Council follow through on its promise to provide local community organisations with a lease so that the building does not fall vacant yet again.
Our campaign to save our community centre is only just beginning. Join our next assembly in Down Lane Park on Saturday 27th September and be part of what comes next.
