Over the last few weeks, a group of volunteers who believe in a better future for the internet coordinated to gauge interest in a research project to address shared challenges in the AT Protocol ecosystem. We met with founders and contributors across the community, conducted early workshops, and explored how we might approach cooperative innovation together.
We landed on five core themes to focus on initially:
User Experience: How might we simplify the complex nature of an ecosystem spanning numerous, decentralized services services?
Brand Awareness: How might we steward the AT Protocol's consumer brand personality, beyond Bluesky?
Trust & Safety Readiness: How might we support organizations and communities of all sizes to protect the people using their services?
Economic Factors: How might we break through the financial barriers the majority of the ecosystem is currently facing?
Contributor Enablement: How might we help give back to the people who work tirelessly to bring us all together so we can build as a community?
While it’s been productive and rewarding to get so many folks discussing these problems, this ecosystem belongs to everyone, and we know how important it is to get input from the wider community.
So, starting today, we’re kicking off a call for participation for a research pilot program we’re calling Ecosystem Action Research, for AT Protocol.
The goal of Ecosystem Action Research is to facilitate strategic innovation to address the above five themes. We will conduct interviews, run workshops, and co-create research artifacts to support conversations for action in the community. To build trust and encourage open collaboration, we will communicate regular updates on the outputs of our research.
