Leaflet: Longform for Bluesky
social docs, like open Medium…
publish where your people are!
Leaflet is a tool for making and sharing fast, fun, expressive docs. Now we're making it social, with comments built on Bluesky.
Bring your posts to the party; talk where you're already talking.
Ways we're excited to use this:
Post an essay — readers share what resonates
Share a project — friends send kudos
Plan an event — people join and participate

Sketching out some interesting use cases in more detail:
WIP project notes or drafts
Create a doc for sharing questions or ideas as you work in public on a project, or share drafts or outlines as you develop them, with a way for people to give feedback.
Reading list or syllabus
Or any sort of collection, whether curated by you, or crowdsourced!
Share a list and talk about it as a whole; share individual items and start conversations about them; ask if people have suggestions for other things to add.
R&D notebook
Building an app or other product? Share your working notes / public changelog in a way that's easy for users to respond.
Public essay / manifesto / vision statement
Publish your next big idea, and immediately share with friends and followers to start a conversation!
Ideally with a way to annotate and more directly quote / share particular parts of the doc, for more context-rich conversation.
Organize an event, club, or challenge
Make a homepage for something you're hosting, whether a one-off event or an ongoing thing like a book club or daily drawing challenge.
You might use a page for each session or each prompt, so people can easily comment to share their work, thoughts, or questions.
Open questions on how this might work

Q: Will we use atproto for comments only? Or do we have plans to host long-form content on the protocol too, stored directly in PDS?
A: Not sure yet! Sequencing TBD, but we'd love to have a lexicon and app view for the long form content. Leaflet as the collaborative editing layer, and a button to publish to atproto in your PDS.
Q: Will there be a way to add private comments?
A: We'll start with public posts / comments, but interested in thinking about extensible permissions, and how we might do private comments in Leaflet that don't post to Bluesky but work similarly.
Q: Do users need a Leaflet account to comment?
A: It should work such that replies to posts on Bluesky happen there as normal and automatically get pulled into the comments section on the doc. Some things like selecting particular bits of the doc (i.e. annotations) will only work directly from the doc!
Q: What's the plan for rolling this out?
A: First things first, adding a simple "log in to Bluesky" from Leaflet. Then some way to add basic comments as Bluesky posts. Then probably a more annotation-like experience after that. Ditto deeper integration with hosting data in your PDS (see above).
Somewhere between open Medium and open Google Docs. Like Bluesky-powered blog comments…but with quick easy to share docs.
The missing link between shortform convos and longform content. Conversations at home in your doc — and on the timeline.
We're working on this now and will msg you as soon as it's ready!
