Coffee recipes
I like to have some coffee recipes on hand to remember the details of various brew styles. I’ve been making espresso mainly these days, so I’m not using these daily. But it’s nice to change things up sometimes.

25s Pour 100ml
40s: Stir 2×
50s: Pour 40-50ml
55s: Attach top, invert

Notes
Mark Prince insists on using a metal filter, like the Able Brewing DISK Fine, in order to get the maximum flavors out of the brew.
French Press
Source: James Hoffman
Summary: 30g coffee, 500g boiled water
Steps
Pour water over medium grind
At 4 minutes, stir crust, scoop floating bits
Wait 5+ minutes
Position press at surface (don’t press) and pour. Enjoy!
Notes
This is about as simple as recipes come. I usually ignore the second step of stirring the crust. Despite its simplicity, this produces good coffee! It makes you wonder why people (like myself) fuss about their technique.
V60
Source: James Hoffman
Summary: 30g coffee medium grind size, 500g boiled water
Steps
Preheat filter and vessell
0-45s: Pour 60g, swirl, allow to bloom
45-75s: Pour continuously to 300g (60% of water)
75-105s: Pour continuously to 500g (40% of water)
Stir 2×, swirl when safe
Allow drawdown, aiming for 3:30 total brew time
Enjoy!
Notes
This recipe is pretty fussy. You may enjoy James explaining the theory behind the technique in the linked video.
Miscellaneous
James Hoffman had a follow-up to his “ultimate” V60 recipe above. I haven’t tried it myself, but once I do, I may add it here.
Having ⅔ of his recipes here makes me look like a Hoffman-stan, which I’m not.
