Leaflet is an Atmosphere app let's you easily publish blogs, websites and more. When you create a publication on Leaflet, you automatically get a Leaflet address for it (e.g https://site.leaflet.pub ). But if you had your own domain and wanted to use that instead, you can!

Here's how -

  1. 1.

Log in to your Leaflet account and go to your account Settings (click your name on the bottom left)

Leaflet main Settings
  1. 2.

Under General, find Unassigned Domains. Click 'Add Domain'

Leaflet main Settings, General tab. Arrow points to Unassigned Domains, Add Domain.
  1. 3.

A popup appears. Type in your domain name. Click 'Add Domain'. Note: You must already own a domain name. I use NameSilo for mine.

Add a Domain popup window
  1. 4.

The popup now will show you a bunch of numbers. IMPORTANT: Copy and paste everything in the table into something like Notepad or Notes. You will need these in order to tell your domain host (e.g NameSilo) to connect the domain name to Leaflet.

Verify This Domain popup window. This window shows DNS information. It shows the values for the A record and CNAME record.
  1. 5.

This next bit will look different depending on who your domain host is. I am showing NameSilo's interface. If you have another provider, it should be similar but not exactly the same. You may need to ask your host for additional instructions specific to their setup.

Leave the Leaflet tab open. Open a new tab, and go to your domain host (e.g Namesilo).Log in to your account, and navigate to the page where you can find the DNS settings for your domain name. You will see a bunch of values there.

Namesilo DNS record page
  1. 6.

(1)If there already is a A record, there should be an edit button for it.
(2)If there is no A record, click 'Add DNS Record'.

Namesilo DNS record page. A is circled. 1 shows the edit button icon. 2 shows the Add DNS Record link.
  1. 7.

Edit or Add with the first value from Leaflet (you DID copy it to Notepad like I told you earlier, right?). Click Submit (or similar button to proceed)

Edit DNS record settings
  1. 8.

Repeat step 6 & 7, but this time edit or add the Cname values

  2. 9.

Head back to the Leaflet tab. Click on 'Verify'. You may have to wait a while, or if you're lucky, the verification has already completed. When it's ready, it'll look like this.

Leaflet settings showing Unassigned Domains
  1. 10.

In the Leaflet main page, choose the Publication you want to assign the domain name to. Click Settings on the left menu, under Analytics. Scroll down to Available Domains. If you have set up everything correctly, your domain should show under 'Available Domains'. Click 'assign'.

Leaflet publication settings page. Arrow points to Available domains.
  1. 11.

Once assigned, click the 3 dots . Choose 'Set As Default'. This will set your domain name to be the main address for your publication. You Leaflet domain will still remain active (it's like a backup address).

Leaflet publication settings page. Arrow points to 3 dots and a dropdown menu showing Set as default
  1. 12.

You're done! If everything went correctly, now your domain name should go straight to your Leaflet publication!

My domain name already points somewhere else; will this work?

It will but depending on your current setup, there may be additional values in your DNS record. Some of these may need to be deleted. You may need to speak with your domain host to determine which ones to keep and which ones to edit.

I don't have a domain name

You have to buy one, sorry. There are many sellers, some are cheaper some are more expensive. You also have to renew your domain after you buy it, as they are usually only valid for a year before renewal.

I followed your guide but the domain host interface looks different

I am showing the interface for my domain host, Namesilo. If you use GoDaddy or Squarespace etc, it will look different. However there should be a way to access the DNS settings and add/edit the numbers to the ones provided by Leaflet. If you cannot find them, you should contact your domain host for help.

I still need help, this isn't working!

Please contact Leaflet or your domain host if you need more help. I'm just a regular dude, I don't work for Leaflet or Namesilo!

What is a Leaflet and an Atmosphere...

Leaflet is kinda like Wordpress on Atmosphere; in practice, it can be used to publish blogs, websites and more. You can read Leaflet's FAQs here.

Atmosphere is name for the tech ecosystem that Bluesky, Leaflet and other apps belong too. You can read a non-tech explanation of what Atmosphere is here.
