1. Will CraftSky be free?
You will not have to pay to be seen.
CraftSky will be free to use, with optional paid features for things like convenience, customisation and productivity. Paying will never boost your reach, improve your position in feeds or unlock access to other people’s content.
To see the full list of planned paid features, I welcome you to check out the open doc linked in the description.
2. ‘Will my friends be there? That’s the key challenge. So many new platforms around’.
That is the biggest challenge for any new social platform, and I can’t promise that everyone you know will be there immediately.
What we can do is make it easy to find people as they join, reconnect with accounts you followed elsewhere (i.e. Instagram), and make CraftSky useful for discovering projects even before your existing network has fully moved across.
3. Will there be a way to import all Instagram posts onto CraftSky so your profile on the app populates immediately and you don’t have to start from scratch?
Yes! I have been working on a way to both bring your social graph and old Instagram posts across. It will involve downloading your Instagram export and then uploading to the app. But it will all be processed locally so no private data leaves your device, apart from the posts you want and the people you follow.
4. Will there be an explore page?
Sort of. There will be a project explorer which will show you the latest makes but will also be sortable and filterable by a number of different categories, basically to help you find inspiration or see how specific patterns look.
5. Will you be able to share projects from Stash Hub?
Yes! That’s the idea. And because the whole platform is open it will be fairly simple for other platforms to do the same if they so wish.
6. Will CraftSky be (eventually) linked to scheduling apps like Buffer?
No. Not likely as this sort of integration depends on the scheduling app implementing the feature. Although there will be the ability to schedule posts from within the app.
7. Will CraftSky have DMs?
DMs are unlikely to be available at launch, but we know private conversations are important for building friendships, so messaging will be a high priority after launch. Because CraftSky is built on an open network, there may also be compatible messaging services people can use.
8. Would you consider offering a service to set up a business profile for a fee?
Our aim is to make setting up a business profile simple enough that you won’t need to pay anyone to do it. We’ll provide clear guides, but we’ll also listen to feedback if people need more hands-on support.
9. What’s the policy around things like politics and AI?
We have an open doc for the Community Guidelines which will be linked in the description that discusses this. The main points are that pure AI generated content will not be allowed.
Craftivism, discussions about inclusion, and political topics that directly relate to crafting will be welcome. CraftSky won’t be intended as a general political-discussion platform, and harassment or hostility will not be acceptable regardless of the topic.
We understand that it’s a complex topic and are open to thoughts and feedback. We will also be looking to implement features that allow you to tailor your experience.
