Traditional Social Media as a Prison

Social media apps have become a vehicle for community building, world news, and political campaigns. As app owners have enmeshed themselves more with the state, the carceral logics that haunt marginalized communities offline, became a part of their digital realities online.

Permissioned Data Shapes: Private Events

A private events space is the first shape with other people in it: a member list of friends and family, guest RSVPs that live on the guests' own PDSes, and an app allowlist that controls which services ever see the venue address.

some photos I took with a SEVENTY year old camera

Whilst on holiday with my parents in Bridgnorth, I found a really nice looking Kodak Box Brownie in an Antiques Centre. There's alot of them out there in varying conditions, but this one looked really nice, wasn't too expensive, and I hadn't used one before so I picked it up! I dated to somewhere after 1953 making it a seventy year old camera! And it took 620 film which, at the time was specially produced for the Box Brownies but thanks to the folks at Film Photography Project you can now get fr...

Reading in Public

E.F. Benson

Edward Frederic Benson was born to a family of writers–-both his parents and three of his surviving siblings were all authors. And, according to some accounts, most of his immediate family was queer. Benson himself was gay, and included gay and lesbian characters in some of his works. His mother, after his father’s death, moved her long-time female companion into their house, and his sister Margaret, an Egyptologist as well as an author, also enjoyed a long-term same-sex relationship.

Jim Parsons Opens Up About Being “Miserable” Through Much Of ‘The Big Bang Theory’

“I felt that there was so many plates I was supposed to be keeping in the air and that the success and the good things of life that were happening were only due to this overworking, discipline and whatever,” he says. “Maybe to a degree that was true. I don’t know. I can’t say because that’s how I was.”
