ViewThe Ancients were a race that were almost identical to modern Homo sapiens and lived tens, possibly hundreds of million years ago. The Ancients advanced technologically and mentally to the point where they could rid themselves of their physical bodies and convert their consciousness to pure energy and ascend to a higher plane of existence.
The Ancients were divided into two factions because of philosophical differences, the Alterans /ɑltɛɹən/ and the Ori /ɔːɹaɪ̯/
The Ori stayed in their original galaxy but the Alterans explore the universe and came to the Milky Way and seeded life, then they fled to another galaxy, because of a plague, and later came back, because of a war from an alien race, and saw humans just like them evolved again on Earth. Even later the Alteran and the Ori ascended and left behind their language.
Proto-Ancient was a language spoken loooooong ago and split into two branches: Proto-Indo-European and Antarctic
The Antarctic branch (called ancient) split into Alteran and Ori
The exonym is "Ancient" which comes from Latin "Antiquus" which ultimately comes from their endonym "Ancytas"
