oh the writingmonth style is cute... i love it immediatelyI just think back fondly to the days when you'd get some random friend with a domain name to spot you a subdomain and some space on their shared hosting. the true spirit of community!!!
it's been a really interesting brainteaser to work out exactly how to get all the data i want for smallbird social and what i've learned from that about how atproto actually works at this juncture. which like damn i love an engineering puzzle so that's probably why it's consumed me but i'm glad other people think it's a worthwhile endeavor! i just know whenever i say "ok just open the command line" to most of my friends they get very scared,PFFT. yes very technical term
but yeah atproto is just... really fun system to hack on? it's nice to not have to operate your own database for most uses and also have a lot of data portability. my third eye has openedI just wanted to say this is being a HUGE help so far. most of the packages for PHP are underdeveloped, so I'm rolling my own bsky auth for it (...for rolling my own appview) and boy is there a lack of walkthroughs out there that don't operate with the assumption that you have a client library that just works! I'm still trying to get the PAR request to work but this is way farther than I was yesterday.
> open up my RSS reader
> immediately get taken the fuck out by the first link in herethinking more about stuff... it'd probably be really nice to have the option to put additional pages on a publication so you could have stuff like an about page
as far as implementing more robust canvas features, honestly what's there right now (being able to put text or images wherever) is really good. maybe adding some basic shapes?
being able to put grids or tables in posts would also be neat but that seems like it'd probably be logistically annoying, ahaha
