As you said in the same paragraph: "Maybe we can have a little centralization, as a treat?" I enjoy Pix a lot here in Brazil, combined with Open Finance we have here too, the flexibility and velocity to send and receive money from/to anyone, 24/7 and no matter the bank, it's very amazing, no wonder it's heavily used by Brazilians (and even some other countries that have an economic relationship with Brazil) in just a few years after being implemented (example: I can just open my Google Pay wallet on my phone, send or receive money with Pix using NFC or QR code or a key, directly to/from my bank account, without opening the bank app, I use it almost every week). Solutions more in this kind of direction (easy, quick, high availability, low to no barriers) is what I think it's going to really be the future of money. Web3 could try to incorporate some lessons (I know a decentralized system can't follow the same steps as a centralized system - Pix implementation is managed by the Central Bank of Brazil, how the system works is defined by them and then applied by every bank or fintech).
Thank you for sharing! I had not heard of Pix, that sounds super useful and like the kind of thing I could imagine people in my life using too (which is not true for so much of what I saw at Eth convention (though a lot of it was super cool)).

Yeah I really hope Web3 can learn from the open socials and the open social world can (& I think already is) learn from & take the good parts of web3.

Oh that's pretty cool 👀 taking notes to search up more about it
Yeah this was what I found, I didn't follow through on it though: https://docs.ens.domains/web/subdomains/

this is actually what we're working to do at quidli.xyz!perhaps an email like `pay@jakesimonds.com` that you can then add to the open social register to use?
One thing I hope to give some time to in the next few weeks is 1: looking more into existing payment rails being built for ATProto & 2: looking into feasibility of partial bridge/broadcast to/from farcaster & ATProto. A New Social has built a really cool Mastodon<->Bluesky bridge (https://fed.brid.gy/docs) & are considering Farcaster as well. So potentially for folks like you who have already got a lot going on Farcaster maybe there's ways you can keep building where you are and quasi-rails can be built to port it into ATProto

I need to learn more about quidli! Was really interesting chatting with you, and am seeing you got good docs so I'll take a look & may ping you. And yeah, something like pay@mydomain.com would also work...for ATProto everything is domains and subdomains, but email arguably has advantages over a subdomain in that it's potentially less intimidating to less technical folks
