you're 100% on the money about FOSS' privileged unwelcoming atmosphere. i've written about this too (on my blog here) and as someone who is into tech and has been in FOSS spaces for around 6 years or so.... i'm so sick of this shit and more often than not i want to see it burn more than anything

omg i love the sound of deprecating pdsadmin.sh... my enemy..... i think goat would be better though it's lacking in user (admin?) friendliness for sure at the moment haha

i've heard a bit about monomarks but haven't checked it out, looks exciting!

i love the bit about video games and anisota

this is a great read! thanks to everyone involved and especially bailey for putting it together!

SO MUCH COOL STUFF HERE!!!! you're on fire, carly!!!!

first off: ty for the spindle service i am def interested in that 👀 homemade jam looks very fun too, and super versatile with all the SSG options!!!

i am *very* excited about the smallbird.social project. best of luck with it, i am cheering you on!!! i'm fully on board with any idea along the lines of "making web hosting easier for people who know how to drag and drop files via FTP a la PHP or CGI" and so this project has been very exciting to follow. i wish i was better at PHP so that i could contribute, i've been thinking about it!

a managed hosting service for friends is something i've wanted to do for a *long* time. i was also looking at hestia & other panels but came to the same conclusion as you. it's hard! i'm in the same boat of just hosting HTML files and/or simple PHP projects (that i can dockerize for the false sense of security. and also because i hate doing things bare metal) on a server :P

i love your thoughts on PDS MOOver's simplicity and ease of use! it's a really good ethos to have especially as it's aimed for non-technical users (but not excluding technical users through its simplicity too!)

did not know there were so many more out there! i used to be pretty diehard for bookwyrm but i grew tired of manually adding my books to the database. i've moved to storygraph since then and i love it there.
