When you are with someone you care about, be fully present. Don't multitask, don't be thinking ahead about other things you need to do. Give them and the moment your full attention.
I'm finally starting to see more signs of aging - like forreal forreal. In my late twenties, I had gray strands here and there, a little bit of crinkles near the eyes. But now, when I see myself in the mirror, I see an aging woman. The grays are multiplying. My eyes look tired. The lines on my forehead are more pronounced. I may or may not be losing more hair. I'm really getting old...
Trying to put words to what I think makes me a great engineer.
That’s right, folks! Come on down to the August-Autumn festival, where everything is pumpkin-flavored even though my grass will still die if I don’t water it at least every other day!
dear diary- i mean blog
It’s been a minute. Let’s catch up. If you followed me over at my previous writing home, you’ll notice that I didn’t do any sort of winding down over there. I just peaced out. Ghosted. Left. I did have a good reason, and I did have a good reason I didn’t want to share my good reason.
One final move and we're settled.
It’s one of those nights! Fish sticks it is! #fishsticks #food #life
July was a month full of unexpected events, milestones, and just busyness in general. It's crazy that we're way past the half of 2026, and that we'll be soon -- depending on how you look at "soon" -- embarking into the autumn.
MacBook time So, I finally bit the bullet. I bought myself an M5 MacBook Air. Friends will be unsurprised, it's been on the mind for a while. This is also my first proper Mac that I'll be owning too - before this I relied a lot on Hackintosh since the early 2010s which for modern...
Time for another round-up of things that I've been up to this month that I didn't blog about. As with June's update, it's back to being a little longer than May as I've been able to do more things as I gradually recover. Back from Wales Our holiday in Wales was once again just a...
The week of imposter syndrome.
I went for a walk in the forest on Saturday. Not a remarkable walk. Just the sort of potter around that is an everyday occurrence for most dog owners. Just to the south of Brussels is the large expanse of the Sonian Forest (Forêt de Soignes/Zoniënwoud), an ancient woodland that most people experience as a monotonous wall of trees passed in a car on the motorway, or from a seat in a train.
I've decided to do weekly posts about my life instead of waffling over what content I should create from scratch. Some of it will probably inspire other posts - in that case, cool. Otherwise this makes sure I have fresh content pretty consistently.
Reflecting on a lot of hectic weeks & months
forgot to go to bed 2 hours ago :(
Here we are, into the latter half of the year. I'm continuing to recover, and this month sees us go on our annual summer holiday. Recovery update I'm slowly regaining mobility in my arms, following my fall, and I'm generally in less pain now. I'm still not fully back to normal, but may be closer...

Woah! It's that time of the month again. June has gone by very fast, full of activity, travel, and a - way too hot for The Netherlands - heatwave. Let's look back and reflect on everything that has happened this past month!
got that grimace cup, fam
June has been pretty chill in most ways saving the weather. Jacob and I actually managed to convince our friend Tate to go to the bar with us to have a drink and play some pool a couple times. Definitely a W, even though the tables were pretty packed by the time we made it...
May's update was short, as I was mostly recovering, whereas this month I have been able to do a little more, including returning to my standard blogging pattern of every other day. Still, here's a few things that didn't result in a blog post of their own: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx6_jj9RxhI Tom Scott's creator advice Tom Scott got...
An attempt to articulate the feeling of when the monsoon comes to Mumbai.

Slooooooow.
Notes from Andrew Balmford's Royal Society Environment Medal lecture, on why shifting diets and cutting food waste are necessary but not sufficient, and why sustainable high-yield farming tied to land sparing is the key to slowing the extinction crisis.
Back it my first job, I had a coworker with whom I got along really well - I became a regular at the family home, got to know her daughter, we works at festivals together, etc, etc. After leaving that job, which I did a little over 13 years ago, I lost touch with them. Sad, but that's how it goes. ...

I’ve no exact recollection of that day when the ground shifted around us all. It was day 101 of the Mutatis Mutandis Project and we’d been told to expect a test of the machinery, around midday. Nothing more than that. To be honest, I’d probably not have understood much, even had they tried to further… Read More »

May was an incredibly packed month, which sort of explains why it took me so long to write this post. Now that I have some time to go through all the events, let's take a look back together, and go through some of the things that happened in May!
