I finished Spotify the Gnostics, Here's the First Church of David Bowie. The first part was a nostalgic trip through the 80s. I enjoyed that; however, I bought the book for the second part, Sean Manseau's Phonomancy work. a bit disappointed. Read like a drug-fuelled psychodelusional trip through his own ego consciousness. Maybe my discomfort...

I asked this question a couple of years ago. I would rephrase the question now. The world definitely doesn't owe you a meaning. You have to make it for yourself. It's built slowly from the choices you make that compound over time. You can be free without direction. You can have direction without freedom. What...

Kospet Tank M4

I've been testing the Kospet Tank M4 special edition smartwatch. It's a fraction of the cost of something like the Apple Ultra smartwatch. Performance so far has been top-notch.

What happens to human meaning-making when thought itself becomes networked?

I'm not asking what happens to productivity or output. I'm asking what happens to meaning. When thinking is distributed across human-AI systems, something genuinely new appears. Not better thinking or faster thinking. A different category. Meaning that emerges from the interchange itself, that no single node, human or machine, can claim to have authored. You...

Ted Nelson: The universe is a system of ever-changing relationships

https://youtu.be/Bqx6li5dbEY?si=wO7lmNCkCIT33JI_ This short clip from Ted Nelson in Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World is less about technology and more about a philosophy of connection. Nelson reflects on the core insight that has guided his life's work: reality is not made of isolated things but of relationships, connections, and ever-changing patterns. The central...

Hello, World!

This is a test of the "notes"/microblog system that I've set up, mainly just to have a way to quickly send out something like a thought or a quick reaction without having it be conflated with any longer-form posts that could come later and which I want to have on hand for any future reference.

Rethinking Testimony in the Age of AI

I’m pleased to share my latest publication in Logos & Episteme: “Can Conversational AIs Testify? Challenging the Conservative View.” The paper examines whether conversational AIs can count as genuine testifiers. Link: https://doi.org/10.5840/logos-episteme202516320

Dialog Routes

In a website UX pattern, a dialog is an interruptive piece of element, usually interactive, shown to cover a page while the rest of the page are not interactive. Dialog can be treated like a "page" overlaying the current page. Sometimes, this dialog that got treated like a page gets its own route in the...

How to Upgrade yt-dlp Using Winget

Over the years, I keep facing this issue of upgrading yt-dlp using winget. I had to search the resolution over and over with many people pointing to different places, but only this worked for me, so I'm documenting it for myself. Background Winget is a pacakage manager for Windows. yt-dlp is a program to download...

Converting Japanese E-Book in Kindle with Calibre

I have some Japanese e-books that I am reading in my Kindle (mine is Kindle 8th Generation). I use Calibre to manage file format conversion and sending them to Kindle. However, when I send them to my Kindle, I encountered some problems: The furigana embedded in the e-book are shown incorrectly. They are inlined instead...

On Windows 10 and Windows 11, sometimes "United States-International" keyboard layout will appear in Window's keyboard layout options. This keyboard layout is not what you normally want since most keyboard uses the normal US keyboard layout and not the US-International layout. Keyboard layout list from taskbar showing English (United States) languagewith United States-International keyboard layout...

An analysis of the traditional account of defeater

According to the traditional account of defeater, defended by John Pollock in the paper “Defeasible Reasoning” (1987), the following definition of a “defeater” is accepted: (DEF) Where D and E are jointly consistent propositions, D is a defeater for E’s support for P if and only if (i) E is a reason to believe P but (ii) E&D is not a reason to believe P. A consequence of Pollock’s account is the following principle of symmetry: (SYM) If both E and D provide a reason to believe P, D is a defeater for E’s support for P if and only if E is a defeater for D’s support for P. But this traditional account has been challenged by some philosophers. Jake Chandler in his paper “Defeat Reconsidered” (2013) developed the […]
