From Community Art Pop-Ups to ArtPrize: VAAC’s Voting Rights Art Installation Heads to Grand Rapids
The voting rights artwork VAAC and Indivisible Metro Detroit have been creating with community members throughout the summer is headed to ArtPrize 2026. The Community Voting Rights Art Installation will be exhibited at Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids, with Preview Week beginning September 12 and public voting opening September 18. VAAC will also take part in special programming at Fountain Street Church on Sunday, September 20.

Presented by Mothering Justice, The ARIAH Foundation, Omari Maynard, and community partners, the events will honor mothers lost to maternal mortality and advance the work for maternal health justice.
Upcoming ID Clinics in Ferndale and Detroit
This Monday, August 10 is the first of two August ID clinics in Ferndale and Detroit, that will help residents access Michigan Secretary of State services, voter registration, and community resources. No appointment is necessary, and the full cost of a Michigan State ID will be covered for people who qualify. The second one takes place on Friday, August 14.

Next Statewide Jail Voting Workgroup on Thursday, July 16
VAAC’s Statewide Jail Voting Workgroup continues coordinating efforts across Michigan to expand voting access for eligible voters detained in county jails. The work includes strengthening county relationships, improving communication systems, supporting vote-by-mail access, and preparing statewide coordination efforts ahead of the upcoming election cycle. The next workgroup meeting takes place this Thursday, July 16.

VAAC will provide voter education and registration at community events in Detroit and Highland Park on July 11 and July 15. Michigan’s Primary Election is August 4, 2026, and eligible residents can visit VAAC at these events to register, check their information, and ask questions about voting.
