Next VAAC Friday Meeting on July 31: Official Launch of the Michigan Jail Voting Guide
On July 31st, the next statewide VAAC Friday Community meeting will officially launch the Michigan Jail Voting Guide, a new resource to help communities understand the voting process for eligible voters detained in local jails. Amelia Armstrong from the Prisoners’ Legal Advocacy Network will discuss how the guide can support clerks, jail administrators, legal advocates, community organizations, and others working to share accurate voting information across Michigan.
Upcoming July Events: Voter Education, Rides to the Polls, and Community Conversations
VAAC will provide voter education and registration support at upcoming events in Detroit and Ypsilanti, including community gatherings and free rides to early voting sites. Community members can also attend programs featuring county clerks and voting rights leaders, including VAAC Executive Director Angela Davenport.

VAAC will speak and provide nonpartisan voter education and registration at four Metro Detroit events during the Good Trouble Lives On Weekend of Action, July 17 through July 19. The national weekend honors John Lewis and his legacy of nonviolent civic action as Michigan voters prepare for the August 4 Primary Election.

July 17's VAAC Friday Community Meeting will focus on Disability Pride Month and the connection between disability rights, voting rights, and civil rights. We will discuss barriers voters with disabilities continue to face and how communities, advocates, and election officials can support accessible participation.
Next Statewide Jail Voting Workgroup on Thursday, July 16
VAAC’s Statewide Jail Voting Workgroup continues coordinating efforts across Michigan to expand voting access for eligible voters detained in county jails. The work includes strengthening county relationships, improving communication systems, supporting vote-by-mail access, and preparing statewide coordination efforts ahead of the upcoming election cycle. The next workgroup meeting takes place this Thursday, July 16.
Find VAAC at Community Events This Week
VAAC will provide voter education and registration at community events in Detroit and Highland Park on July 11 and July 15. Michigan’s Primary Election is August 4, 2026, and eligible residents can visit VAAC at these events to register, check their information, and ask questions about voting.
Free ID Clinic on July 7 in Ferndale
Voting Access for All Coalition is joining Michigan League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, Jews for a Secular Democracy, and Affirmations Community Center for a free ID clinic in Ferndale on Tuesday, July 7. Community members can come to Affirmations Community Center to get help accessing the ID they need to vote, work, travel, open a bank account, access benefits, and more.

The Pride Month conversation will focus on LGBTQ+ rights, civil rights, voting rights, democracy, Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, and current challenges facing LGBTQ+ communities.
