ActivityPub är det protokoll som används av de flesta alternativ till de stora sociala medierna. De flesta programvaror som använder sig av protokollet är fri och öppen programvara. Ingen större programvara ägs av riskkapitalbolag, blockkedjeinvesterare eller bitcoinspekulanter.
