Now that I am looking back at what happened in March, I see it was quite of a calm month. Oddly enough, I didn't perceive it as so, since I feel like it went by so fast. Let's then take a look back together, but I'm sure this will be a shorter post than in the previous months.
There's a particular type of tiredness that isn't about sleep. You can get eight hours (I don't, but theoretically) and still feel like you've been carrying something heavy for weeks. That's roughly where I've been lately. Not miserable, not burned out in any dramatic sense – just a bit worn around the edges. Which, honestly, is probably the most accurate description of early 2026 I can give.
The shortest month of the year is now ending, which means that two months of 2026 are already gone! February was quite a busy month for me, and it feels like I never had time to fully stop and rest. Let's take a look.
Balancing deep creative work with limited, fragmented time after parenting.
January went in a blur: it feels like 2026 has just begun, and yet the first month is already gone. It reminds me of what my parents always say: the time goes by very fast, and it gets worse with age. Maybe I'm sort of getting to the point where I start noticing it more and more.
AI can serve us as a force multiplier, augmenting our own agency and making the most of our own effort, hard work and value. Not by replacing it.
Our new paper in Biological Conservation demonstrates how the LIFE extinction risk metric can be applied across five diverse case studies, from real-time tropical deforestation monitoring to evaluating conservation project effectiveness.
November is now behind us, and there's only one month left in 2025. This year has been going by much faster than I first anticipated, and it has been full of things happening - should I call them events? Maybe that's what adult life is all about, but, for now, let's focus on the past month.
A Cambridge article explores our research on how food consumption affects the extinction risk of 30,875 land-dwelling animal species, with an interactive tool to examine biodiversity impacts across different countries and diets.
In striking difference with the past month, October has been quite busy and hectic. And no, it's not because of Halloween! Not only did I travel to two places, but there have also been many events, and anxiousness about things happening around be. Let's recap.
August is now coming to an end, and there is something in the air feeling more and more like the autumn. Days are becoming colder, darker, and the rain is showing up again. That's good, considering The Netherlands has had one of the driest years so far. Let's look back and see what I've been up to.
It is warm. Or, should I say, very hot? It is very hot 🔥! For the past few days, the maximum temperature outside has been hovering 30C in the south of the Netherlands. Here in Eindhoven we have, officially, a 80 to 100% chance of a heatwave. I think that's a yes.
"Interacting with others is energizing". That was a thought I had around a week ago, and it has been stuck with me ever since. It probably doesn't come as a surprise to most - also not for me-, but I thought it'd be nice to expand a bit more on this thought.
I always want to say that the past month was relatively uneventful, but then I write the post and I realized that more things happened than I first thought. So, let's recap July, which is now coming to an end.
May has now come to an end. We started seeing the first signs of summer, warmth and, at the same time, some rain, to keep us refreshed. It was an unusually calm month in my life, I would say. However, I have the feeling that it is the calm before the storm.
April was a fantastic month. Spring is now on full swing, the trees and flowers are in full blossom, and the weather is warming up - perhaps a bit too much. It was also a month of travel, my second intercontinental trip ever. Let's take a look!
March has ended a few days ago, meaning that this recap is coming a bit later than usual. Maybe it is a product of the weather being nicer, and the fact that I've been a bit more busy than usual. It's been quite some hectic days!
Three years ago today, my mom passed away. Three years later, my world is still forever changed.
February is now past us, so it's time for me to quickly recap what has happened last month, this time a few days later than usual. I was hoping to have posted more during last month. However, I made a few updates to the website with the intention of making that easier!
January is coming to an end, meaning that around 8% of 2025 has already passed. It felt like a slower month, definitely slower than the previous months in the sense that there was nothing big happening. However, the things that happened, I'm very glad with.
December is now coming to an end. It's time to recap about what has happened during this last month, before writing my final Year in Review. This month was quite of a rollercoaster, I visited a few places, met with people a few times and watched a lot of stuff.
The eleventh month of the year is now gone, and it's almost time for Sinterklaas and then Christmas. November had more events than I was actually planning for, but it all ended up going well. Let's recap!
