My Charli XCX hate era has officially resumed! I honestly didn't even know this was out, that's how far I dropped off. Her (lack of) relationship with Rina Sawayama, her partying with Russian regime supporters, all of it has just given me a massive 'red flag' vibe. To be fair, it was always there, I guess I just ignored it more before. Which is kinda my bad. This will be an album I listen to once and no more, even if I do like it. [Spoilers: I did not]. Maybe that means I would be primed to hate it from the outset, so keep that in mind. But I still do think most of her other music is fantastic.
Sweat: Oh dear, what is this? I'm not sold at the start. Feels...wrong. The production is good but the vocals with the effects...I'm sorry, they just don't work for me. The production is cunty, this is like Basic Gay Bop but those vocals really do drag it down, sorry! Why are we randomly getting different singing in the bridge? Wack. 6/10
This is my 5th album review of the year, featuring girli's third studio album 'it's just my opinion'. I got into girli's music around when Matriarchy, her last album, was released. I was quite impressed by that album, and there were lots of good songs, although it was a bit rough in places. So let's see what I think of this album!
Country music can be hit or miss for me. There's some country music that I have really enjoyed listening to, such as (shock) Taylor Swift, but also a couple of other smaller artists I would mention if I hadn't deleted my previous blog. Oh well! I did not really enjoy Kacey's last album all that much, I did not get the hype, so let's see how I feel this time.
MUNA have been an artist that I've really liked for a few years now. They're a fantastic queer pop band. Lesbians have fantastic music taste, as evidenced by the love for MUNA among so many lesbians. I especially liked their second and third studio albums, and I'm actually going to get to see them live later this year, which I am super excited for. Anyway, I'm almost certain I will enjoy this album, as they've always delivered in the past! Let's get into it!
If you have any recommendations for me of albums released this year you'd like me to listen to, tell me! I'm randomly picking those albums I think I would find interesting or are big albums that were released this year. So if there's something you want me to check out, let me know.
Welcome back to my long neglected music blog. As I am in the last few months of my PhD, I am going to approach things slightly differently than before, at least for now. Rather than doing a weekly roundup of a lot of different albums, EPs and songs, I'm going to review various albums that came out in 2026 at my own pace. This allows me to both listen to and review music, which I love doing, and also allows me to actually get my thesis work done at the same time.
