early turnover albums are great, i'm glad i went back and listened to them. also that sounds like such a killer gig, emma ruth rundle is awesome live. i really enjoy her work with chelsea wolfe - was super lucky to catch those two together at a gig a few years ago. 

also so glad to hear you're enjoying static dress! excellent time to get into them with their new album out, they've been touring quite heavily lately so i highly recommend their shows if you ever manage to catch one. great energy off the bat and great pits too.

This post so well written, I'm in awe and love how you describe music! So many interesting selections here and this is why I love looking at everyone's Shinee song rankings because they are always so diverse due to how expansive their catalogue is. Shinee are one of those groups where I truly believe they have a song for everyone to enjoy if you dig far enough into their deep cuts as well. 

I always LOVE seeing Prism on a list because it's one of my all time favourites and I want more garage/two-step Shinee so bad. Also laughed about the notorious creaky bed spring sample (every group I listen to is drawn to this sample like moth to flame), where would we ever be without it haha!

CØDE was on constant loop for me when Don't Call Me came out and one of my favourites on it. The production is ridiculously precise on it and everyone sounds fantastic but man Onew really shines on that track. The synth feels extremely thick and heavy in a way that really scratches the brain right. 

Shift is a top 5 track for me, so transcendant...makes you really feel like you're floating

Incredible choices for your top 5 - especially seeing Password at #1, I think you're the first person I've ever seen talk about this track in their top 5 list!!! It's a slow burn track, and knows when to pull back into quieter moments, giving the vocals room to breathe. It honestly reminds me of that era of 00s nu-metal that branched into electronic soundscapes, bands like Linkin Park, Incubus (especially their b-sides), and Deftones, but honestly might be my craziest comparison: the commercial, poppier sound of Nine Inch Nails' With Teeth but of course not as edgy. Outside of electronic music and k-pop, I mostly listen to metal/rock and this song has always hit home for me because of that similarity. I always thought Shinee had the voices to do rock music but I never wanted to see them fall into that overdone pop-rock that has the rest of the industry in a vice grip (it's not my thing) and Password really lands in the right sphere for them.

I didn't want to write a whole ass essay but just know I have so much to say about everything you've written here, really loved it! Shinee are forever the group that defined me growing up and I will love them forever <3

THIS right here! I absolutely adore Shinee's Japanese discography - I think they have some of the strongest if not the best in all of k-pop. So fun to see Kiss Yo make it onto a list! So sorry if I spam up your comments too

excellent list - wolf alice have always been one of my all time favourite bands and discovered them so early on in their career to! it's amazing to watch a band grow like that. also really loved your thoughts on wednesday and had a good chuckle at cut hands - my thoughts were the same on that. chino still ripping!

this is such a lovely post! i live in a very remote area in my country, and i'd say we're so insular a lot of love for local scenes. being a punk kid myself who grew up on the streets i always love looking in on other communities - as you said it's so valuable at a time where the world feels painfully divided. will definitely be checking this out, i can already see a few things that are right up my ally!

thank you! so interesting to hear you feel similarly on whether or not this year was a slow one. i think i definitely revisited a lot of artist catalogues i liked and stuck to them rather than branching out. i discovered a crazy amount of music in 2024 as well so maybe i just needed a little rest LOL. would love to see your list if you ever make one though!
