2-3-4 is a good start. I think usage is worth factoring in as well. If one lex has more data/features than another, do you default to the more featured one? The one with more users? Over time do we push towards bloated lexicon with tons of fields? From an ecosystem perspective, we want devs to answer these questions so that the user never has to think about what lexicon they are using or who might be included/excluded by it.
I understand why "the most users" feels like the right move in some cases (Bsky's lexicons being the obvious one). But in most cases, I would hope the interoperable standard is the minimal viable one that helps connect different lexicons without making it too difficult to adopt. But, yeah, letting the developers (and maybe lexicon community) decide on a case-by-case basis makes the most sense here.

Does Ghost actually use Article type? Which as AFAIK doesnโ€™t display in Mastodon?
Yup, they use Article type and have a Note for the preview which shows up on Mastodon:

Noted for the theme options! More header / layout possibilities could be nice. Long term I think it'd be cool for a publication homepage to itself be more of an editable block-based page (e.g. with about block, subscribe block, recent posts blockโ€ฆ) I think notifications is a big open question too, not just for us but more broadly. We could do in-app / email, but I think something like a universal atproto inbox (via bsky or separately) could be a cool future thing for the ecosystem.
Definitely - it's been something I've been a bit concerned about as well. I like the idea of a universal inbox, but that makes the whole experience disjointed. No ideas for a better solution, though.

Oh and thanks for the list of things you'd like to see! Gonna test out comments here, and also quote to share publicly to bsky. I'd love to hear any specific you'd like to see re: theme options (already planned: adding a few more font choices) and how you'd envision @-mentions working.
Love it!

Theming options off the top - banner images / changing how the header looks, fonts, article list layout (just titles w/ subheading v. giving a preview of the full post)

@mentions - For now, I plan on "faking it" and just linking when I @mention an ATProto user, but notifying them of it would be a huge bonus. But that's the tricky part - do they get notified on Leaflet? Bsky? Email? All the things?
